Event highlights

Groundswell Festival

Groundswell Festival 2024

Groundswell Festival is WA’s largest multi-sport youth event, celebrating positive youth culture and showcasing Scarborough’s world-class destination and facilities.

Presented by the City of Stirling, the festival returns to Scarborough Beach for two days on Saturday 5 October and Sunday 6 October 2024, expecting around 18,000 visitors.

This iconic event features two days of amateur surf, skate, and 3x3 basketball competitions, along with a nationally sanctioned skate bowl and surfing competition. It also includes creative workshops, artist-led art classes, health and wellness activities like dawn dips and ice baths, a sustainability program, and live music from local WA artists.

The City has proudly supported this event since its inception in 2015.

BMX Racing National Championships

BMX Racing National Championships

The AusCycling BMX National Championships is Australia’s premier BMX event, attracting national and international competitors. Held over six days from Monday 7 October to Sunday 13 October 2024, it features amateur and elite racing classes, providing pathways to the World Championships. Riders from ages five to masters will compete for championship titles.

This event will draw top BMX competitors from across Australia highlighting the world-class track at Westside BMX.

ExPRO Fitness Summit and Festival

ExPRO Fitness Summit and Festival

ExPRO Fitness is Perth’s largest fitness and lifestyle event, offering access to the latest health, fitness, and wellness trends, world-class education, and exciting fitness experiences. It promises an action-packed weekend for the whole family.

The event kicks off on the first day with the Summit at Rendezvous Scarborough on Friday November 8 2024, featuring guest speakers, panel discussions, training opportunities, and demonstrations. On day two, a free outdoor fitness festival will be held in the Scarborough precinct on Saturday November 9 2024. The festival will promote health, well-being, and social engagement, showcasing local health and wellness services.

Next Gen Comedy

Next Gen Comedy

Next Gen Comedy is returning to the City of Stirling this July and the search is on for WA’s best up-and-coming comedian! Originating in 2015 at the Mt Lawley Bowling Club, Next Gen Comedy is a launching pad for WA's best new comedian. This road-show event will see 30 comedians across four events battle the stage to progress through to the grand finale, with the winner taking home a cash prize, professional mentoring, career opportunities, and a wild-card entry to WA Comedy All-Stars competition! 

Heats are being held at the original Mount Lawley Bowls club and Osborne Park Bowls Club, with the Final being held at the Hamersley Community Hub Belvedere Road Hamersley. 

Winners are based on audience vote so it is up to you to decide who will make it to the grand final! Tickets are available from www.nextgencomedy.com.au

Mirrabooka NAIDOC Event 2024

The City is proud to support the Mirrabooka NAIDOC Committee present the Mirrabooka NAIDOC Event in July of each year. The event celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history and gives our local community the chance to connect through ceremony, entertainment, cultural activities and more. 

This free and inclusive event promotes healthy lifestyles and access to a variety of local services and is being held on Thursday 11 July at Stirling Leisure Centres - Mirrabooka - Herb Graham Recreation Centre.

Jazz Connect

A two-day Jazz Festival was held within various venues along the Scarborough Beach Precinct on 24 and 25 August 2024. 

NBL 3x3

NBL 3x3 Big Hustle National Championships and Scarborough Slam

Scarborough SLAM is a festival of 3x3 street basketball and will include three days of 3×3 tournaments for Opens and Juniors, dunk comps, food trucks, entertainment, and more basketball activations for the community to enjoy from Friday 29 March to Monday 1 April.

SLAM saw 3×3 tournaments for juniors, open men and women (all skill levels are welcome and both with prizes and prize money!!), shooting and dunk competitions, NBL Legends shoot out, as well as player appearances from Perth Wildcats and Perth Lynx! For the younger kids, there was shooting games, basketball clinics, and activities all weekend!

Perth Beach OCR

Perth Beach Obstacle Course Race (OCR - Scarborough 2024)

The City was proud to support Perth's first ever beach obstacle course event - Perth Beach OCR Scarbs 2024! The 5km Obstacle Course Race took place along the Scarborough shoreline and Trigg bushland on Sunday 21 April.

Perth Beach OCR is suitable for all fitness levels whether you’re looking to stand on top of the podium, or just here to have some fun with your mates. Grab your friends and get ready for a wicked day full of beach festival vibes. Keep an eye out for future OCR courses.

Perth Festival 2024

Perth Festival 2024 in our City

The City was proud to sponsor Perth Festival 2024, bringing you two dynamic performances running from Thursday 22 February through to Sunday 25 February.

Slip on a set of headphones and settle in by Scarborough Beach for The Invisible Opera. As you take in a vista brimming with life, you will hear a live libretto sung by a security camera, describing what's happening in front of you in real time.

Nightwalks with Teenagers led participants through the streets of Mirrabooka with local young people as your guide, creating a special experience that brings adult audiences and teenagers together for fun, adventure, contemplation and connection.

The City is also proud to support dance workshops for local community groups as part of the Wayfinder performance.

2023 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing Championships

2023 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships 

The 2023 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships were held in Perth from 30 November to 3 December, with the finish line at Scarborough Beach. In recent years the Championships have been held in Tahiti, Hong Kong, France, Spain and Portugal, and were held in Australia in 2023 for the first time! 

The City hosted a Community Fun Day in Scarborough on Saturday 2 December 2023, featuring all day free activities, retail markets, licensed area, live music and more.

This event was proudly presented by Paddle Australia in partnership with the City of Stirling.

Paw-some Day Out 2023

Paw-some Day Out 2023

The City’s annual Paw-some Day Out returned to Dianella Regional Open Space on Sunday 29 October 2023.

With over 3,000 people and their pets in attendance, Paw-some Day Out is the City’s largest dog-friendly event, hosting over 40 stallholders showcasing the latest pet products and services. The day also featured a best dressed costume parade, canine obstacle course, pup art activity, show bags, eating challenge, prizes and more.

The Aussies 2023

The Aussies 2023

The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships 2023 (known as 'the Aussies') took place at Scarborough and Trigg beaches from 25 March - 2 April 2023, and attracted over 10,700 attendees.

The Aussies saw 5,841 surf lifesavers from 171 surf clubs competing in 505 water and beach events from Youth, Open and Masters categories. The Aussies 2023 was nine days of surf sport action across 18 categories ranging from under 13s to over 75s.

In addition to the competition area, the lower promenade ‘Festival Zone’ also housed the City and TWA marquees, event sponsors, merchandise, food and beverage suppliers, with SBA facilitating 'the Aussies' edition of the Sunset Markets in the upper square.

Event sponsorship

The City of Stirling provides cash and in-kind sponsorship opportunities for events that have a strong alignment with the City’s Strategic Community Plan 'Sustainable Stirling'.  Events that bring activity and vibrancy to local centres, that attract regional, national and international visitors and increase spend in local areas, and that create unique experiences or support the arts and culture sector are favourable. 

Sponsorship proposals can be submitted to the City throughout the year however we encourage all proposals to be received by July of each year.  Proposals for sponsorship above $5,000 are presented to Council for approval.

Expressions of interest

If you are interested in becoming a supplier for community events, please register via the below forms. Expressions of interest are accepted throughout the year.

  • Artists, performers and community organisations: Please complete the supplier registration form. This will save your details to our supplier database for future reference.
  • Food vendors: Please complete the permit application and submit along with any required documents to environmentalhealth@stirling.wa.gov.au. Please note that no fee is required to submit a permit application. Refer to the food permit FAQs for further information.
  • Buskers and entertainers: Live entertainment adds to the City’s vibrancy and helps to create an atmosphere where people want to be. However, there are several considerations that we need to make before allowing buskers and entertainers to occupy our streets. Please contact the City's Arts and Events Team on (08) 9205 8555 and ensure you have a minimum $20 million Public Liability Insurance prior to enquiring.
